The Lava A55 is a sleek looking smartphone available in white colour. The front and the back sides are completely flat. A silver metallic-looking strip runs around the entire edge of the phone. This design is reminiscent of the Apple iPhone 4. It appears as a conscious design decision rather than a coincidence.
The back panel carries the Lava branding in the middle with a 5.0 megapixels camera sitting pretty at the top. On the right of the camera is the LED flash while the speaker grill sits on the left side. The speaker grill is made of drilled holes arranged in a rectangle. The back looks clean and sophisticated.
On the front side, the three Android navigation keys are located below the 4.0 inch LCD display. The earpiece is flanked by a selfie camera; with its own flash. The phone has flat sides and sharp edges. The volume rocker and the power button sit on the right edge of the phone. On the Left edge is the micro USB port. A case is highly recommended. Overall this is a sleek, sophisticated looking phone.
The Lava A55 sports a 4.0 inch LCD display outputting at a resolution of 800 x 480 for a density of 233 PPI. The display is bright enough and the colours are well-saturated. Sunlight legibility is good and it is easily viewed outdoors.
Overall this is a decent display at this price-point.
The primary camera on the Lava A55 is a 5.0 megapixels autofocus camera paired with a single LED flash. Pictures taken in ample light and under ideal lighting conditions come out good displaying a decent amount of details. Colours are also rendered correctly.
The front camera is a 0.3 megapixels camera which are a dismal resolution for a selfie camera. There are no details in the captured pictures. The front camera comes in handy for making video calls.
The Lava A55 runs on an unspecified quad-core processor which is running at 1.2 GHz. It is paired with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage which can be increased up to 32 GB through the dedicated microSD card slot. The phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
The phone goes through the daily tasks easily with a few lags and hang-ups happening randomly. This is mainly due to the 1 GB RAM.
