Lava is a very successful brand name in the world of low-cost smartphones. Lava KKT 28i is an Indian mobile company which produces affordable smartphones and feature phones. Lava is known for delivering premium looking devices at scarcely believable prices. It is one of the few OEMs which are still producing premium feature phones on a regular basis and managing to sell them in good numbers.

The Lava KKT 28i is one of the latest offerings from them. With a premium brushed-metal design and a big display, it is a handsome looking device which belies its price tag of Rs. 1,800/-. But it is available in online stores for around Rs. 1,350/- to Rs. 1,499/-. The phone works at 2G speeds. So, no social media, no internet, and no video calls are supported. Let us take a look at this device in detail.

The Lava KKT 28i is a beautiful device clad fully in plastic and finished with a faux brushed-metal effect. The device is painted in black all over which gives it a sleek and stealthy look. The removable back gives access to the battery, the dual SIMs, and the microSD card slot. The top third and the bottom third of the back are covered in a dimpled texture which feels pleasant in hand.

The center part features the brushed-metal finish. Both the dimpled areas are clearly demarcated with a thin black line. The camera and the pill-shaped loudspeaker grill are placed on the top demarcation. This gives the back a very attractive look. There are two raised nubs flanking the loudspeaker grill ensuring that the speaker does not touch the surface on which it is lying flat. This ensures that the sound does not get muffled. On the front of Lava KKT28i mobile is the 2.8-inch QVGA display which is amply bright and well-saturated.

Below the display is the two action buttons, the call receives and call end buttons, the four-way navigation key, the OK button and the alpha-numeric keypad. The right action key also acts as a shortcut for the LED torch situated on the top of the phone. The keypad bears Devnagri characters along with English alphabet which makes typing in Devnagri quite easy. The OK button is clad in Chrome. This gives a nice contrast to the black paint making it stand out. There is no front camera.

The 2.8-inch QVGA display is quite pixel-dense and looks beautiful with ample levels of brightness and saturation. Fonts look smooth and details stand out quite easily. The display is easily viewable outdoors without putting too much strain on eyes.

The camera on the Lava KKT 28i is a 1.3 megapixels shooter which does not feature any sort of flash. The pictures shot in daylight and under ideal lighting conditions turn out quite decent.

But low-light pictures suffer because of the absence of flash. All-in-all, this is a decent camera useful for shooting casual photos. But there aren’t a lot of expectations from this camera in the first place.

The Lava KKT28i is a feature phone and is not hindered by big touch-screen display or a processor-intensive OS. This phone is meant for calling and it performs its duty quite well. This is a fast phone! There is no scope for complaints about the call quality or operating speed.

The Lava KKT28i battery has a large 1800 mAh capacity. The relatively small display paired with big battery results in good battery figures. The built-in 32 MB storage can be increased up to 32 GB via a microSD card.
