Kara K5 is a feature phone. It is not a smartphone; so no multi-tasking, no surfing the internet and social media and no fancy games. It is made for one and one thing only. calling. Feature phones were the only ones available up to 10 years ago. It is surprising that even after 10 years of smartphones being available.

At the bottom of the display lies the alpha-numeric keypad which is instantly recognizable as a design language of feature phones. The K5 runs on EDGE network as it doesn’t support 4G or 3G.

· Kara K5 Handset
The Kara K5 is available in a black colour scheme with a plastic body and a removable back. The removable back gives access to the battery, the dual SIMs and the microSD memory card slot. Both the SIMs work on GSM EDGE network and are of regular size. There is a loudspeaker at the back which sits beside the 0.3 megapixel camera and the LED flash.
The 1.8 inch display takes up half of the front side of the phone. Below that are the two action buttons, the call receive and call end buttons, the four-way navigation key, the OK button and the alpha-numeric keypad. There is no front camera. There is a big branding of Kara below the display. The phone is compact and will easily fit in the smallest of pockets or bags.
The Kara K5 features a 1.8 inch non-touch LCD display. The resolution is 128 x 160 pixels, which is actually quite decent and enough on a small display like this.
The 0.3 megapixel primary camera on the Kara K5 shoots images of 640 x 480 pixels resolution. While this is not meant to be a camera phone, the images are not entirely unusable.
But this camera is strictly meant for casual photography where capturing the moment is more important than the quality. The primary camera is supported by an LED flash and it can record videos too. There is no front camera.
A 256 MHz. processor runs at the heart of the Kara K5 and is supported by 32 MB of RAM and 64 MB of built-in storage. The phone performs well in the day-to-day activities which include calling, messaging and playing casual games. The phone can also run MP3s and videos. So, along with the built-in radio,
there are also sings and movies which keep the entertainment alive on the K5. The 1050 mAh battery is removable, which means that if you run out of charge you can simply pop-in a fresh one. The built-in memory can be increased up to 8 GB through the micro SD card slot.

The main function of the Kara K5 is calling and it does that quite well. Kara claims a talk time of up to 11 hours and a weeklong stand by time. All this is priced at well below the Rs. 1,000/- mark in the online as well as the offline stores. At this price, the K5 makes for an excellent calling-only secondary device. In the end, every phone has its utility and its own place in the smartphone world of today.
