Everybody knows that the Sony mobiles is suffering and took a make a break period. In this background the new Sony Xperia Z5 compact has been released where the profitability seemed as a priority. And this is the full review about the Sony Xperia Z5 compact. This is a 4G smart phone.
The design of the Sony Xperia Z5 compact will be instantly familiar to anyone who know about the Sony’s previous models. AS you guessed this is a compact phone means a smaller sized phone. It uses the same design language as you see in the Sony Xperia Z5 premium. Including the signature button layout with the dedicated camera button and a large power button in the middle of the right hand side.
The power button has a clean metal finished which is a rectangular one. At the bottom right hand side is the volume rocker which is really hard to reach. And also depends on which hand you are holding the phone. Going around the device you will find a 3.5mm head phone jack along the top, on the bottom there is a USB port along with a microphone. On the right hand side you will find the signature button layout. On the left hand side you will find a sim card and an SD card slot which is protected by a flap.
The device strangely has a roll out plastic one which provides the information about the model. Available in White, Graphite Black, Yellow, Coral colors. The dimensions of the device are 127 x 65 x 8.9 mm. The weight is 138 grams which is of medium weight.
On the front you will find a 4.6 inch display which has a resolution of 720p. Which gives a pixel density of around 323ppi. The screen to body ratio of the device is 68.9%. Supports 10 multi finger touch.
The Z5 compact display is protected with oleophobic coating which is a scratch resistant glass. Talking about the display this is a compact version of 4.6 inch. Due to the Triluminos display and the X reality engine made by the Sony the display looks very crisp.
The color reproduction is good. It also got the great viewing angles because it is an IPS screen. And Sony has included a dynamic contrast making the screen look darker for the darker side and brighter on the brighter side. The display is comfortable to watch videos and play games but it takes some time to get adjusted to the smaller display.
Sony Xperia Z5 Compact comes with a small sized 4.6 inch display. The device is packed by an Octa-core (4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A57) processor along with the Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset.
It runs on Android v6.0.1 version marshmallow and soon there will be an upgrade to the Nougat v7.0. Supplied with a 2GB RAM and 32GB internal memory expandable through micro SD slot up to 256GB for loading videos, music and many more. Having primary camera of 23MP camera with f/2.0, 24mm, phase detection autofocus, LED flash. Provided with 1/2.3" sensor size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama features.
The camera records video in 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, 720p@120fps, HDR. It has 5MP front camera availing f/2.4, 1080p, HDR. Stereo speakers are available. Embedded with Sensors like Fingerprint, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, barometer, and compass. Availed with a non-removable 2700mAh Li-ion battery. Fast battery charging is available.
You will notice that the power button has been changed to incorporate the fingerprint sensor. The finger print sensor is fast and there are no miss reading Even the size of the display is smaller the hardware is not compromised in any way and exactly the same. You get the octa core processor with a QUALCOMM snapdragon chipset. This small device got the NFC feature. The only difference you see is the different battery sizes and a 2GB RAM.
The phone comes with some water proofing specifications specifically IP68 where you can just wash off the dirt. However the Sony recommends not to completely submerge in water, don’t expose it to see water or even hot drinks. Coming to the speakers the front firing speakers give loud sound when placed on flat surface but sometimes loose the depth when played on higher volumes.
The equalizer gives a very good customization to the audio making it punchier. Coming to the battery it is provided with 2700mAh battery which should be enough for a small phone. And the modes for power saving help you a lot. You can stream around 6hrs of video and play around 4hrs game. On standby time it is giving around 44hrs which is the best.
The battery can be charged 50% in just 45mins. Unfortunately there are some heating issues with phone that is not particularly irritable but sometimes it goes higher especially during recording 4K videos it becomes quite hot. And the thing is Sony knows about this and it warns you when you start recording. The app will also close when it becomes significantly hot which around 20mins. The UI is fast and responsive, games play well. The AnTuTu score of the device is 62130.
Moving on to the camera it is 23MP Sony Exmor camera. I have taken pictures on both 23Mp and an 8Mp mode where the camera feels a bit disappointed. On the day light or good light the camera works well. However some pictures are dull and washed out. And in low light situations the camera tries very hard to produce a good shot. And the noise levels are very high.
The camera provided here is same as the bigger X5. However it feels ok when you used the Sony camera app which gives great fun. It super imposes computer generated graphics on to the photos or videos. And there is also a mask mode. To mask your face with computer generated mask. And the timeline feature which records at a high frame rate and plays slow motion effects. And a multi camera mode which allows you to record the same scene in multiple camera angles.
This is a very good smart phone with an amazing performance. The camera feels ok. The price range of the device is Rs 28k to 29K. There are few cons and many pros but overall I am pretty satisfied with the phone and I loved the compact display.
