The Sony SRS-XB40 is a super-compact, single-box speaker system. It is a rare form-factor which packs in two tweeters and a subwoofer in a single shell. It is portable and weighs in at 1500gms. The front of the speaker is all grill. This grill is surrounded by a light strip which is lit by LEDs. These LEDs can be controlled and can be synced to the beats of music. The light strip appears milky white when it is switched off.
The Sony SRS-XB40 has a landscape orientation by default. There are two flashing strobes packed behind the grill on either end of the speaker. The entire body is finished in matte black. The top and the bottom of this speaker are plain, whereas the sides are textured. The two tweeters are placed at the edges of the speaker and are silver in appearance, which provides a nice contrast to the black grill. The fit and finish of this speaker are excellent, as expected from Sony.
It is certified IPX5 water-resistant. All the controls of this speaker are located on the top side. These include the Power Button, Extra-Bass Button, Play/Pause Button, Volume Up and Volume down Buttons, the Call Answer Button and an Add Button.
