LG has always been one of the frontrunners in the race to bring new and innovative products to the market. In a market filled with flat panel televisions, LG needed a differentiator to make their televisions stand out in the crowd. They introduced the LG 32LN5650 Jazz which is a 32” HD LCD television which packs in a 2.2 channel speaker system within itself featuring Twin Subwoofers and Virtual Surround Sound. The focus here is on the sound quality, which is often weak in flat LED televisions.
It is being marketed as the USP of this series of televisions. The LG 32LN5650 Jazz is available at a price of Rs. 34,780/- in online stores. Let us take an up-close look at this television in this review.
The LG 32LN5650 Jazz sports a generic flat panel design. The 32” display has thin bezels which allow for wide viewing angles. It comes mounted on a stand which has a trapezoidal base. The stand can be removed if the television needs to be mounted on a flat surface, like a wall. The front of the television is clean and does not carry any sort of controls. All the controls of this television are located on the backside of the right edge. In the center, on the back side, there are twin woofers to accompany the downward firing stereo speakers.
The ports and slots are divided between the back side and one of the edges of the television. Following ports sit on the edge; 1 USB, 1 HDMI and 1 Headphone Out. The ports on the back side are as follows; 1 RF In, 1 Composite In (CVBS + Audio),1 Component In (Y, Pb, Pr + Audio), 1 (Composite, Component common) and 1 HDMI port. The LG 32LN5650 Jazz weighs in at 8.39kg with stand and 7.8kg without it. Overall, the design review doesn’t throw up any surprises and features a boring but working design.
The LG 32LN5650 Jazz has an HD ready 32” LED Backlit IPS LCD display which looks gorgeous and has an unusually good grayscale performance for a television in this price range. The colour gradient look just as great with perfect sharpness right out of the box. With the minor adjustment to gamma levels, the display looks amazing and punches way above its class.
The wide viewing angles are nothing short of impressive, with no colour shift happening even at extremes of the horizontal and vertical viewing angles. The gamma levels are pleasantly uniform throughout the panel’s surface. The display performs much better than some of the costlier alternatives available in the market.
PERFORMANCE & SPECIFICATIONS:
The USP of the LG 32LN5650 Jazz is the designation ‘Jazz’ in its name, which claims a powerful audio performance, unusual in the thin frames of flat panel displays. Its 2.2 channel sound system is its claim to fame. It is engineered twin subwoofers and twin stereo speakers for a Virtual Surround Sound. It aims to deliver superior sound quality with a 1200W peak performance; 30W RMS each from the twin front speakers and 30W RMS each from the twin subwoofers.
It delivers a significantly better output than regular flat panel televisions. While not stellar, it manages to deliver enough performance to make a positive difference while watching movies or playing games. The MHL (Mobile HD Link) feature enables consumption of HD content directly from a mobile device to the big display. The mobile devices can be connected to the television using a compatible MHL cable and can be controlled using the TV’s Magic Remote. The beauty of MHL is that the mobile device charges itself simultaneously while streaming HD content.
USB Movie enables USB or external hard drives to be connected and its contents played directly on the screen. The Resolution Upscaler feature converts SD content to HD while playing it on the screen. Triple XD Engine manages a perfect balance between Colour, Contrast, and Clarity for the best picture-quality performance. With an MCI (Motion Clarity Index) of 100, it is a genuine testament to LG’s advanced panel technology in reducing the blur in fast-moving images on the screen.

The LG 32LN5650 Jazz carries itself well throughout this review without faltering. Perhaps, the only place it stumbles is the HD resolution. The sound output, while powerful, cannot be a replacement for a dedicated sound system. But whatever it delivers is good enough for a television. The gorgeous display with its wide viewing angles really makes this television shine. It is one of the best displays available in its price range. The LG 32LN5650 Jazz gives excellent value for the buyer’s money.
