When tablets were introduced to the world, they were being hailed as the PC killers amidst the great tablet revolution. That never came to pass. Tablets did merit an interest, but it turned out to be curiosity that people have for something new. Even now, the tablet for markets is shrinking every quarter. They are simply not powerful enough to compete with desktops or laptops for some heavy-duty productivity. Yes, the tablet does have its uses, but for most people, it does not translate into must-have necessities. 2-in-1s, on the other hand, are fascinating devices. They have the power of a fully-loaded laptop and have the convenience of a touch-screen and tablet’s form factor. The Lenovo Yoga 710 Core i5 is one such device which is a mid-range offering from Lenovo.
In fact, Lenovo is the pioneer behind popularizing this form factor. The Yoga 710 has a screen which rotates 360° and turns into a tablet with a single swivel. The Lenovo Yoga 710 Core i5 2 in 1 notebook offers the best bits of both worlds, the power of a PC and the convenience of a tablet. The Lenovo Yoga 710 is available for a price of Rs. 94,709/- in online stores. Let us take a closer look at this laptop in the following review.
The Lenovo Yoga 710 Core i5 notebook is a portable and feature-rich notebook that transforms into a tablet. It is made out of aluminium and the entire notebook sports a premium matte silver finish. The lid of the notebook is bare except for the Yoga branding in the top-left corner (when viewed from back in the lid-open position). The corners are gently rounded. The base has a tapering design which gives the feeling that the notebook is slimmer than it actually is. It has unique antenna hinges which address the problem of unreliable Wi-Fi connections. Lenovo has made an antenna which is physically integrated into the Yoga hinge. It covers a greater surface area, which makes the signal stronger and much more stable. The hinges themselves are made out of steel and are incredibly strong in order to withstand the wear and tear of the swivelling design of the notebook. The matte silver finish is carried on the inside too.
The Lenovo Yoga 710 Core i5 features a full-size chiclet-style keyboard which has black keys, providing a nice contrast against the silver background. It is incredibly comfortable to type on. The keys are black backlit and have a generous amount of travel. The touchpad is big and almost square. It has the right amount of surface friction to make it an accurate touchpad. The HD webcam sits over the display and is flanked by a microphone. The left edge of the notebook features a status LED, the 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD card reader slot and the power socket for charging. The right side has the volume rocker, the micro-HDMI, and Display Port combo and finally 2 USB 3.0 ports. There is no optical drive on this notebook. The design review of the Lenovo Yoga 710 brings out the small useful design choices like having a physical rocker button for volume control in tablet mode.
The Lenovo Yoga 710 Core i5 notebook sports a bright and colourful 14 inch full HD, multi-touch display which has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Lenovo calls it an edgeless display. The side bezels are incredibly thin. But the top and bottom bezels are thicker, which makes sense because the top bezel contains the webcam and the extra space at the bottom is needed to reinforce the hinges.
The ten-point multitouch display is very sensitive and provides a superior touch experience with great responsiveness and faster response times. The 14” IPS LCD display has sufficient brightness at 300 nits and wide viewing angles. The full HD wide display is an all-rounder, which is perfect for watching movies, playing games and productivity.
The Lenovo Yoga 710 is powered by a 64-bit 7th Gen Intel Core i5 7200U processor which is clocked at 2.8 GHz. Graphics are taken care of by Integrated Intel HD Graphics processor. It has 8GB DDR4 RAM clocked at 2133MHz. It has a 256GB SSD (Solid-State Drive) which delivers exceptional performance with blazing fast read-write speeds. It runs the 64-bit version of Windows 10 Home operating system.
The Lenovo Yoga 710 packs in a big battery and delivers 8 hours of activity on a single charge. The powerful specifications keep the notebook running smoothly without any lags or stutters. The touch-screen is super-responsive and really enhances its utility as a tablet. Overall, the Lenovo Yoga 710 stands out as a stellar performer in its performance review.
