Lava is a well-known Indian brand best known for their affordable smartphones. They have a finger on the pulse of the Indian mobile market. Lava is among the top three Indian mobile manufacturers and is a brand to be reckoned with. The Lava A77 is an affordable smartphone which supports VOLTE for the fastest connection speeds.
The phone does not have the protection of Gorilla Glass display or the security and convenience of a fingerprint scanner. But it features a big display, dual-SIM support, and a 5.0-megapixel selfie camera. The Lava A77 is available at a price of Rs. 4,999/- in online stores. Let us take an in-depth look at this smartphone in the following review.
The Lava A77 is a sleek-looking smartphone which is available in three distinctive colors; Gold, Grey, and Blue. The back panel of the phone carries Lava branding in the center and features two horizontal lines which are just a design element serving no purpose in the functioning of the phone. The 5.0megapixel camera lies off the top horizontal line and is flanked by a LED flash. The loudspeaker grill lies near the bottom horizontal line. It is made up of a series of drilled holes arranged in a rectangular pattern. A metal band runs around the edges of the phone giving it rigidity. The back panel is removable and it gives access to the battery, the dual SIMs and memory card slot.
The power key and the volume rocker are located on the right edge of the phone. The 4.5inch screen dominates the front side of the phone. It sports a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels giving it a pixel density of 217PPI. The earpiece is located above the display. It is flanked by the ambient light and proximity sensors on one side and the 5.0-megapixel camera on the other. The front camera’s flash is located in the top-left corner on the phone’s face. The three capacitive Android navigation keys sit below the display and they are not backlit.
The Lava A77 features a 4.5” TFT LCD display which sports a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels which give it a pixel density of 217PPI. The display is bright and colourful. The colours are well-saturated and the contrast ratio is acceptable. The viewing angles are middle-of-the-road, not too great, not too bad. The touch sensitivity of the display is good enough to give a smooth experience in daily usage. The display fully justifies the price-point of this smartphone.
The primary camera on the Lava A77 is a 5.0-megapixel autofocus camera paired with a single LED flash. It is a decent camera which takes good quality photos in daylight and good lighting conditions. The 5.0-megapixel resolution manages to capture a decent amount of details in the well-lit images. It is capable of recording HD videos and users can click photos simultaneously while they are in the middle of video recording.
The front camera also sports a 5.0-megapixel resolution and is paired with its own flash, which is a boon for selfie lovers. This results in bright and clear selfies in any lighting conditions. Like the primary camera, the selfie camera also manages to capture a good amount of details.
The Lava A77 is powered by a Spreadtrum SC9832 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It is paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The storage can be increased up to 32GB through the dedicated microSD card slot. The phone runs on Android V6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The provided RAM is just sufficient for running day-to-day tasks smoothly. There are intermittent lags, but they are to be expected with the kind of hardware included here. The large 2200mAh Li-ion battery powers the phone throughout the day.
The dual-SIM supports dual standby. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG and 4G VOLT support. Sensors on the phone include Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, and Proximity Sensor. Additional utility features include Auto Call Recording and Flip to Mute. The performance review of this smartphone ticks all the right boxes.
