A good speaker system is able to deliver an uplifting performance for a totally immersive audiovisual experience. A bad speaker, on the other hand, will consign it to the depths of mediocrity. A good sound system is made up of three components; clarity of sound, loudness, and fidelity. Take away one of them and the experience just falls flat. The Intex IT-890U is a 2.1 channel sound system which impresses with its sound quality and frequency response range of 20Hz to 20kHz. Intex Speaker comes with a bundled remote control for convenience in operations. The speaker setup consists of 2 tweeters and 1 subwoofer which together have a peak output of 16W.
It supports input from multiple sources and comes with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. The Intex IT-890U is available at a price of Rs. 1,039/- in online stores. Let us take a closer look at this sound system through this review.
The Intex IT-890U is a well-designed set of light-weight and portable 2.1 channel surround sound system. The build quality is good and it is constructed out of acoustic-friendly materials. The main subwoofer unit is the brains of the system and features all the controls and ports of the system. There is no LED display here. The subwoofer is a tall box with a big round silver speaker cover, which provides a nice contrast to the black body. There is a big air-intake hole beside speaker cover which is ringed by a silver plastic accent.
The accent and the speaker cover are joined together by a plastic strip which makes for an interesting design element. There are two analog rotary knobs on the subwoofer for adjusting the volume and bass. There’s also a USB port present for streaming directly from a USB drive. There is no LED display here. The two satellites share the same form-factor as the main subwoofer unit but in a smaller size. They are finished in silver colour and feature the exposed speakers in the centre. Overall, the design review of the Intex IT-890U finds it to be a very attractive-looking speaker set with a harmonious mix of circles and edges.
The Intex IT-890U is capable of delivering a strong bass performance from its main subwoofer unit. It is, in turn, well-balanced by the clear highs, mids and lows from the two satellite speakers to give a complete and cohesive performance. The 2.1 channel setup also delivers a surround sound effect. The frequency response varies between 20Hz ~ 200Hz for the subwoofer and between 200Hz ~ 20kHz for the two satellites. The combined power output peaks at 16W, 10W from the subwoofer and 3W from each of the satellites. The sound output is clear, but it could have been louder. Tracks are rendered nicely. The entire setup delivers a nicely balanced sound output.
There is no distortion at high volumes which miss out on loudness. Surprisingly, there is no FM radio or SD card slot. The Intex IT-890U delivers a clear audio quality but loses points for the omission of FM radio and SD card slot. The performance review of the Intex IT-890U points to an unremarkable but consistent performer.
