The Dell Inspiron APU 3565 is a super-affordable from Dell Laptops which features a 7th Gen AMD APU Dual Core A6 processor supported by 4GB DDR4 RAM and integrated AMD Graphics. It sports a 15.6” HD display and runs on Ubuntu Linux Operating System. It features an optical drive, which is slowly disappearing from notebooks.
It looks to offer the best value for money with a combination of strong performance for a very affordable price. Dell has managed to achieve a fine balance between cost and performance. The Dell Inspiron APU 3565 is available at a price of Rs. 22,990/- in online stores. Let us take an in-depth look at it in this review.
The Dell Inspiron APU 3565 is a decidedly mid-range laptop. Even on this mid-ranger, the Dell build quality shines through, which is typical of Dell, sturdy and well finished. This model is fully matte black with a dotted texture design on the lid, which is also carried around on the inside around the keyboard. The Dell logo is etched out in a glossy finish on the lid, giving it a nice contrast and making it stand out. On the right edge of the notebook lies the SD Card Reader, the 3.5mm Headphone Jack, a USB 2.0 port, an optical drive and a Kensington Lock Slot. The left edge features two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, the fan outlet grills, an RJ-45 LAN port and the power socket. The back edge is bare.
The Chiclet-style keyboard has a generous amount of travel and the keys are easy to press, which ensures comfortable and fatigue-free long typing sessions. The track-pad is decent-sized and features no clickable buttons. The right-click and left-click are divided by a small vertical line painted onto the track pad. It provides a decent amount of surface friction to ensure accuracy in usage. The design review of the Dell Inspiron APU 3565 brings out the sturdy build quality and useful features like the Kensington Lock Slot for security.
The display on the Dell Inspiron APU 3565 is a 15.6” HD LED Backlit Trulife Display which has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels giving it a 16:9 aspect ratio. This aspect ratio is perfect for watching movies and for playing some games. The colour saturation is good and the viewing angles are great. The contrast is quite exceptional with only slight colour shift happening at the extreme edges of the viewing angles.
It is equally useful for productivity tasks as the wide ratio allows for working on really wide excel sheets. The 1366 x 768 pixels HD resolution is stretched a bit thin on a 15.6” display. Ideally, it should have had a full HD resolution for a tack-sharp output. But this display delivers good performance at this price point with colourful and well-saturated images.
The Dell Inspiron APU 3565 is powered by a 7th Gen AMD APU Dual Core A6-9200 processor running at 2.0GHz. The graphics are handled by an integrated AMD Graphics GPU. This setup is supported by 4GB DDR4 RAM running at 2400MHz. It comes with a 500GB 5400RPM SATA hard-drive. All these specifications work in sync to give a smooth, lag-free performance in day-to-day tasks. Casual games are quite playable. The sound is output through dual stereo-tuned speakers with Waves MaxxAudio Pro sound engine. But the sound output is not loud enough.
The integrated HD webcam which sits over the display is in an ideal position for video calls. It features a single digital microphone to carry sound during video calls. The Dell Inspiron APU 3565 also carries on board the latest version of Bluetooth V4.1, which consumes a negligible amount of energy during standby. It also carries IEEE 802.11ac Wi-Fi for faster transfer speeds and has a 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet port for really fast wired connectivity. Overall this notebook is perfect for playing multiple roles in daily usage.
